Fully agreed with Tom & RBerenguel.
I'm also in the tech sector, and I won't be signing up for anything without knowing the details.
WGCM for me.

Re: FindGoPlayers.com launch
Given the hostility that the creator has undoubtedly seen in this thread, I'm not surprised that he hasn't responded to questions. I know I sure wouldn't, were I in his place.
This guy has made a free service for the fledgeling Western Go community (a community that needs all the help it can get) - and his greatest crime seems to be that he tried to run a similar site before and it went down?
Sorry, unless you guys have evidence that this is an e-mail harvesting operation (and I've seen nothing but idle speculation), then I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt. This guy also apparently ran a Go import company, for which I've found no complaints from any customers while he was running it.
I also don't see the issue with his "Hire Me" link. He's attached a minor, unobtrusive link to his services/resume on a free tech project (i.e., a demonstration of his skills and gift to the community), in case anyone sees this work and is interested (or wants to help a fellow community member out). What exactly is wrong with that?

From what I gathered here the problem is not that he made a similar project before, but that i vanished under unknown circumstances, while not providing any information of what happened with the data. At that point the burden of proof of not running a shady operation lies very much on him.

Last time he was even more active in the community starting igolocal. Now he started a site and isn't communicating at all. Thinking this site will last more than one seems optimistic to me, and trying to get the community to flock to a new site all the time isn't beneficial. People will eventually give up. The previous go map on google seems a much better idea for the resource.

It vanished without even as much as a distress call - it would most likely have been possible to find someone to take over. All the while people were volunteering for translations etc. and then one day... Some people were worried about him, trying to contact him, but nothing. Now coming back without "sorry" and just "I am back" as if nothing happened won't cut it for many.
(While my voluntary data entry enthusiasm has cooled somewhat over the last year, I don't get why the hire me link should make the new page any more suspicious than everything else in the interwebs incl. of course google. Asking about the data when the page vanished imo misses the point, you don't have to kill a page to reap the data, it isn't corn.)
However, in its absence I noticed that, although I like the ideas for others in areas with few go players, I personally do not need it. And well, most people do not need it. They may sign up, but the community urge to replace it. when it fell inactive, simply did not exist.

It's a good idea - even if the author has done it before - but I could not add myself and a dojo - just either one or the other - so I chose the London City club - and I hope that all visitors to London will drop by
