New app for iPad
Brugo Joseki has just been released. It's basically an iPad version of the website www.brugo.be
Looks like a very nice complement to the main apps I use for go.

Re: New app for iPad
I just took a quick glance at it. Aside from the Windows-like interface, it doesn't offer anything the website doesn't have, and the website is easy enough to navigate on an iPad...

Re: New app for iPad
Most important thing for me is this app have same view like in "Occurs in following sequences" (screenshot below) on the website? This feature is worth paying for. But once again - I'm always online so... Is this app a good one? Anyone tried it?
On the other hand - navigating through a web version of brugo is a real pain, even on a desktop, any app is better than these tiny letters/numbers you need to click/touch to navigate.
5$ bucks is maybe a little too much for such app but hey - you will use this app for the next years, it is not just a game which you complete and delete from your iPad in a week or two.
So, there are pros and cons - I think I will buy it. Maybe not now, but definitely I will.

Re: New app for iPad
I just made an "official" announcement.
But I see a lot of people already found it on their own.
For full details:
http://www.brugo.be/ipad/ipad.htm
Why an ipad version? It's available OFFLINE(!) That's the biggest advantage.
So you can take brugo with you to your local go club without needing 3G,wifi,...
Personally I like the sliding-through-history and multi-tab ("Add Goban") options a lot.
The user interface is more straight forward and prettier.
About the price:
I must admit the price is a little higher than was meant at first.
The main reason: 50% of that price tag goes entirely to apple.
On top of that, let's be honest ... we have a very small community.
And there's an apple developer license of 100USD/year.
What happens with the money:
Brugo has been online for about 4 years now. (Let's not talk about hours of development costs)
Just the webhosting costs, domain names, apple licenses, third party components: about 400EUR.
Besides that there's been some failed projects which included very expensive hardware (+800 EUR).
Several years ago Gobase was put in a similar position. (
)
They tried donations. After that, they introduced "a registration fee".
But in the end they had to add banners after all. Imho it kind of damaged the gobase position.
On many occasions I've been offered to add banners for casino's and other crap.
This kind of advertisement pays REALLY good. But I've always rejected these proposals.
I think it's better to make revenues in a positive way, with a new powerful product while continuing the existing functions.

All due respect, it's only 30%. I don't see why you need to exaggerate.

*deep sigh*
Looks like I'm a bit off, it's actually 40%. (see screenshot below)
(But you're exaggerating just as much in the other direction.)
It also slightly depends from country to country.
If downloaded from the US, it makes a bit less.
But in essence, you're absolutely right. It's extremely expensive.
You better visit your bank for a loan. Or you can sell your kidneys.

Re: New app for iPad
While I'm curious why there's $1.95 taken out, Apple has a clearly stated 30% policy. Could tax account for the difference?

Re: New app for iPad
It's 30%. The rest is VAT. And that's why it is different for different countries. For example, since there's no VAT in the US, and sales tax doesn't get added, you'll get the full 70% for US sales. For other countries, you get 70% of the ex VAT price.

Re: New app for iPad
I bought this app. Price is o.k for me but i dont like that online FREE website is offering nice features missing from ipad offline version. Hope that there will be update soon. Link from ipad app to website is nice but at least for me this isnt equal to native app functionality.
Verdict - if you need offline joseki app this is good program worthy of those 2 beers
. If not, it is better to use free internet.
