Re: 51st Paris International Tournament, March 30 to April 1

For my fellow non-European go players who are not familiar with European travel habits, be aware that many Europeans take vacations during the Easter holidays.

Easter falls on March 3oth this year.

So put a little more buffer in your travel plans than usual. Book earlier ( like right NOW ) and be ...

Re: How are glass stones made?

Regardless of the method chosen, somewhere in there should be an annealing step.

Glass stones do get broken occasionaly, and I have always seen them break into two or three pieces. I'm sure that you do not want glass stones that shatter into dozens of sharp pieces.

The theory is simple: heat up to ...

Why didn't he use a state court from the start instead of wasting his own time on this expectable result.

Probably a gamble, as many civil legal actions are.

The plantiffs - for some reason unknown to me - consider the federal venue to be a more favorable one. The filing costs are relatively ...

I personally don't see reddit as an alternative...

Nor do I.
Reddit is taking up it's natural share, and we ...

Re: What are you views on Go using an integer as komi?

Draws would still not be that common even at the highest level... I would favor making any single digit difference a draw.

Go is such a complicated game, that if you can't win by at least 10 points, you are not clearly better.
( This may not be true at the pro level, but for the other 99.9% of us ...

Re: Dennis Wheeler

From the admin's POV, Xed_over was a consistent contributor who, TTBOMR, never caused any problems. We will miss him.

That means that we now have to teach the game to about 100 more newcomers just to get one replacement.

2023 Cotsen Tournament

Details are still being decided, but I hear from reliable sources that the Cotsen tournament will be back in 2023.
As usual, it will be in the fall in the Los Angeles area.

I'll post more details in this thread as I get them - unless someone else posts them here sooner.

Re: Where do you travel? ( or where do you want to? )

The virus is on the run, so it is semi-safe to travel again.

Mrs. Banbeck and I both want to see Prague; she wants to see Berlin, Vienna and Milan; I want to visit the chocolate factories in Turin.

There are major conventions for my business every spring in both Prague and Turin ( about 150 km ...

It is only one digit different, so the observers - if any are still alive - will probably not notice.
